About Fold

What is Fold?

Fold is a personal finance app for India that brings your bank accounts, credit cards, UPI spends, mutual funds, stocks, EPF, NPS, loans, credit score and health insurance into one private view. Bank data comes through RBI's Account Aggregator framework, so Fold stays up to date on its own and you stop recording expenses by hand. It is available on iPhone and Android.

Who makes Fold?

Fold is built by Lunchbrake Classic Private Limited, a company in Bengaluru, India, founded in 2019 by the team behind Devfolio. Fold is backed by Rainmatter, Zerodha's fund, and won Google Play's Best Everyday Essential App award in India for 2024. Meet the team.

Is Fold the best expense tracker in India?

Fold is one of the highest-rated: it won Google Play's Best Everyday Essential App award in India for 2024 and is rated 4.5 on both the App Store and Google Play (October 2026). Unlike most expense trackers, you never type in expenses and it does not read your SMS: bank accounts sync through RBI's Account Aggregator, and credit card spends show up within seconds.

Can Fold replace my Excel or Google Sheets money tracker?

For most people, yes. Bank transactions, credit card spends, mutual funds, stocks, EPF and NPS come in automatically and are categorised for you, so there is nothing to type in or remember to update. A few things, such as PPF, fixed deposits, property or gold, you add once by hand, and they then count in your net worth with everything else. If you still want a spreadsheet, Fold Plus lets you export your transactions to CSV.

Is Fold the same as the Fold bitcoin app?

No. Fold (fold.money) is an Indian personal finance app for tracking bank accounts, credit cards and investments. It is not related to the US company Fold that offers bitcoin rewards and a bitcoin debit card, and it does not buy, sell or pay rewards in bitcoin.

Is Fold a bank or a payments app?

No. Fold is a tracker: it reads your accounts, categorises transactions and shows where your money is, but it does not hold your money or replace your bank or UPI app. The one payment you can make in Fold is a credit card bill, paid by UPI through NPCI's Bharat Connect.

Which devices does Fold work on?

Fold is on iPhone (App Store) and Android (Google Play), with home screen widgets on both. Fold Plus members can also see their transactions on the web at fold.money by scanning a QR code from the app. Fold is rated 4.5 on both stores (October 2026).

Can I use Fold if I live outside India?

Yes, if you have Indian bank accounts. Fold is available to Indian bank account holders in India, the US, the UK, the UAE, Singapore, Canada and Denmark. Your accounts still need to be with a bank that supports Account Aggregator.

Safety and privacy

Is Fold safe?

Yes. Fold links your bank accounts through RBI's Account Aggregator framework: you approve access with an OTP, and Fold never sees your net banking password or reads your SMS. Fold is a certified Financial Information User on the AA network, a SEBI registered Investment Adviser (INA000018072) and a member of Sahamati, and stores data only in AWS data centres in India, encrypted with AES-256. Read our approach to privacy.

Can Fold move my money or make transactions on its own?

No. Fold is read-only: it can see the accounts you have given it access to, but it cannot move your money or make a transaction on its own. The only payments in Fold are bill payments that you start and approve yourself. You can revoke Fold's access at any time.

Can I disconnect my bank account from Fold?

Yes. You can disconnect any linked bank account, credit card or investment from the app's settings. For bank accounts, you can also revoke the Account Aggregator consent with Finvu or CAMS Finserv at any time.

Does Fold sell my data?

No, never. Fold makes money from Fold Plus subscriptions, not from selling or sharing your data. How Fold makes money.

How do I delete my Fold account and data?

You can delete your Fold account at any time from Settings in the app. If you only want to stop tracking something, you can disconnect a specific bank account, credit card or investment instead and keep the rest. Privacy policy.

Does Fold ask for my net banking password?

No. Fold never asks for your bank username, password or PIN. You link accounts through an RBI-regulated Account Aggregator (Finvu or CAMS Finserv) by verifying an OTP and approving a consent request, and you can see or revoke that consent with the Account Aggregator at any time. How Fold connects to your bank.

Does Fold read my SMS?

No. Fold does not read SMS. Bank transactions come through Account Aggregator with your consent, and credit card transactions come from card alert emails in a Gmail account you choose to connect.

Does Fold read my emails?

Only if you connect Gmail for credit card tracking, and then only the alert and statement emails your card issuer sends. Fold's servers never see the rest of your mail. From each card email Fold keeps the transaction details it needs, such as the amount, merchant and time. How card tracking works.

Where is my data stored?

In AWS data centres in India. Fold encrypts its database with AES-256 at rest and uses TLS for data in transit, and only authorised Fold services can access it. Fold is ISO 27001 certified.

What does Fold do with my data?

Fold processes your transactions to show you your own finances: automatic categorisation, spending and cash flow, net worth and reminders. What your data is used for and the privacy policy have the details.

Is Fold regulated?

Fold is a certified Financial Information User (FIU) in RBI's Account Aggregator ecosystem and follows the technical standards set by ReBIT. It works with two RBI-regulated Account Aggregators, Finvu and CAMS Finserv, is a member of Sahamati, and is a SEBI registered Investment Adviser (registration number INA000018072). Banks and Account Aggregator

What is Account Aggregator?

Account Aggregator (AA) is RBI's framework for sharing your financial data with your consent. An RBI-licensed Account Aggregator fetches data from your bank and passes it, encrypted, to an app you approve, such as Fold. You choose what to share and for how long, and the Account Aggregator itself cannot read the data it carries.

Which banks does Fold support?

As of October 2026, Fold tracks accounts at 26 Indian banks through Account Aggregator, including SBI, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, Axis Bank, Kotak, IDFC First, Yes Bank, IndusInd, Federal Bank, PNB, Bank of Baroda, Canara Bank, Union Bank, AU Small Finance Bank and HSBC. More are added as banks go live on Account Aggregator. Full list.

Does Fold support joint accounts?

Not yet. Fold supports individual savings accounts and sole proprietor accounts. Joint, corporate and LLP accounts are not available through Account Aggregator, so Fold cannot track them today.

How often does Fold update my bank transactions?

Fold fetches new bank transactions and balances automatically once a day. You can also refresh on demand, 5 times a month on the free plan and 15 times a month on Fold Plus, and Plus members can choose the time of the daily refresh. Credit card transactions are separate and show up within seconds. Refresh details.

Why is my bank not updating in Fold?

Most delays come from the bank's side of Account Aggregator rather than from Fold. Some banks, more often large public sector banks, occasionally stop responding to AA requests, and this usually clears within hours or a few days. The help centre keeps a list of known issues by bank.

Does Fold categorise transactions automatically?

Yes. Fold's F1 engine sorts every transaction into one of 38 categories, recognises the merchant, and spots salary, interest, bank charges, subscriptions and transfers between your own accounts, which it leaves out of your spending. You can change any tag and set rules for merchants. How F1 works.

Can Fold track refunds and money friends owe me?

Yes, with Refund Center. Mark a transaction as refundable, such as a shared dinner, rent you paid for flatmates or money you lent, and match the refunds as they come back, even in parts and across accounts and cards. Matched refunds are taken out of your spending, so your monthly numbers stay true. How we built Refund Center.

Does Fold track UPI payments?

Yes. UPI payments from a linked bank account appear as bank transactions, with the merchant recognised and categorised. UPI payments made with a RuPay credit card appear in real time through your card alert emails.

Can I track my parents' or spouse's bank accounts?

Yes, on Fold Plus. You can link up to 5 bank accounts registered to other phone numbers, such as a parent's or spouse's, with an OTP from their phone. If you only want to see a shared total rather than their transactions, use Spaces instead.

Credit cards

How does Fold track credit cards?

Credit cards are not on Account Aggregator yet, so Fold reads the transaction alert and statement emails your card issuer sends to the Gmail account you connect. Transactions appear within seconds of a swipe or a RuPay UPI payment, and statements fill in your limit, due date and outstanding amount. Why we built it this way.

How does Fold calculate my net worth?

Fold adds up your bank balances, cash, fixed deposits, mutual funds, stocks, EPF, NPS, PPF and anything you add yourself, then subtracts credit card dues and loans. Loans come from your credit report, and you choose which ones count. A history graph shows how the total changes over time.

What can't Fold track automatically yet?

Does checking my score on Fold lower it?

No. Checking your own score on Fold is a soft inquiry. It is not a loan application and does not affect your credit score. More on soft pulls.
